You Can Take Comedy Writing As a Class!
You Can Take Comedy Writing As a Class! We just finished the first week of the Spring 2016 semester. Its always exciting getting new textbooks, notebooks and folders from the Illini Union Bookstore and the excitement of another semester full of classes and great times as an Illini. The most class I was excited about to take was a Creative Writing class that was called Comedy/Satire Writing. Doesnt this class sound really cool and unique? Well it is because its considered a Special Topics class. Often times in many departments on campuses offer fun and interesting classes under these Special Topics and theres usually no prerequisite or major requirement in order to take it. So even though Im an Advertising major, Im still able to take the course! I took this Comedy Writing class in the first place because I absolutely love comedy and Im an editor for the campus satirical newspaper on campus called The Black Sheep. Its a ton of fun and I wanted to become a better writer and expand my horizons as a writer. My professor is really cool too. Hes from Israel and he wrote a sitcom and a few novels too. He also writes for a satirical newspaper! A great thing about Illinois is that your professors are experts in their fields whether its engineering or comedy writing. The first day of class was cool too. It was a small classroom in the English Building so everyone gets the chance to participate in the class. It was cool hearing about why everyone took the class in the first place. Many of the students in the class participate in stand-up comedy and improv on campus too, so you can expect that there are a lot of funny people in my class. During that first day of class we got to watch an episode of the award-winning sitcom Louie! So, you can imagine how awesome the class is going to be. During the semester well get to learn about screenwriting, stand-up comedy and satire writing. I cant wait to learn and to get back to class on Monday. Daniel Class of 2018 Iâm an Advertising major in the College of Media. Iâm from a northwest suburb of Chicago called Buffalo Grove. I chose Illinois because it was the first university in the entire world to offer an Advertising major, which is pretty cool!
